The Pix Theatre has been a silent reminder of simpler times when movies were an easy way to fantasize about adventures, or cheer you up with a good comedy. For the past 10 years The Pix Foundation has been working hard to renovate and reopen this piece of Downtown Nampa history as a multi-use performing arts venue. Progress has been steady with obstacles such as a caved in roof and the economy hampering any early goals of the theatre reopening.
But, they are back on track! With the Library Square project underway, the Pix Foundation would like to shed a little light on their dreams and with the community’s help we can begin to show signs of life at The Pix Theatre.
On Wednesday, April 17th, The Pix Foundation launched their Kickstarter campaign. Funds raised will go towards a new marquee.
Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects. The website is a home for everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. According to its home page, Kickstarter is full of projects, big and small, that are brought to life through the direct support of people like you. Since its launch in 2009, more than 3.8 million people have pledged over $570 million, funding more than 39,000 creative projects. Thousands of creative projects are raising funds on Kickstarter right now.
“Many residents may ask why we are working to put up a marquee while the interior of the theatre is still gutted,” said The Pix Foundation Board President, Debra Lindner. “We are still continuing to work on completing the interior, but we wanted to show the community how close we are to completing our goal and what better way than to light up the marquee. Downtown is slowly growing and we want people to know that The Pix is alive and with their continued donations and efforts, we will create a downtown that will entice Treasure Valley residents to visit,” added Lindner. The launch party took place at Messenger Pizza with refreshments also being provided by them. Musical entertainment was provided by Lo C.
The Pix Theatre will be a multi-venue community arts theatre for live performances, childrens theatre, and special film presentations. We will create educational programs for under privileged and at-risk children in our community, as well as offer art classes to children in partnership with local artists. We will also work in conjunction with programs for children and people with disabilities to provide art classes and workshops with one on one instruction.
